Russian parliamentarians worry about growing food prices
MOSCOW, Feb 19 (PRIME) -- Deputies of the State Duma, Russian parliament’s lower house, are worried about price growth, State Duma’s speaker Sergei Naryshkin told reporters on Thursday.
“Deputies are worried by growing prices. This is an urgent problem, and we should do everything to exclude an unreasonable growth of prices for essential goods and different services,” Naryshkin said.
In January, Prosecutor General Yury Chaika said that prosecutors revealed unjustified price growth of as much as 400% for food and medicine during their inspections.
Media reported, citing representatives of the country’s largest retail chains, that the ruble devaluation accounts for up to 75% of prime cost of some food they sell, while President Vladimir Putin said that the price rise for essential products has far outshot the real scope of problems that the country faces.
